Today a school of anchovies swam before me. Shiny little fishes, so cute. Cheerful and happy. .
This afternoon, the three of us made it into Bagheria. We walked the 2 miles into town found an Internet place. I finally checked my email, the farmers I contacted before leaving the States have not written and there is some kind of weirdness with my phone, it is supposed to be converted so it can accept a SIM card here, and it has not been done. Discouraging.
It was okay though, Malin, my Swedish housemate took us to a local Frigiforia where we met her friend, Gaetano and ate arranicini. Fist sized Fried Balls of Rice stuffed with different fillings. Salmon and Bechamel; Ham and Mozzarella, Meat with peas and get this: Chocolate coated with granulated sugar!

I loved the salmon, but with most nearly everything salmon I can find something redeeming. The chocolate was a reach for me, but upon reflection, if it had more chocolate - was really molten, it would have been terrific.
Thank goodness for the walk home, all that grease, whew.
Towards twighlight I was able to fit in a quick swim.
Like most evenings' my best efforts at Italian conversation dissolve in silly jokes and English.
We had arrancini for dinner. The gift of Gaetano and his family's frigorifero (fry shop).
Why do I complain, why am I so anxious to leave this place and WORK? This is paradise. The people are generous and I feel good, good, so good here. And I am so lucky. I know I will get my chance to wwoof. Just not immediately. So I wait in paradise.

hi, lise,
i'm enjoying your posts! thanks for the vivid imagery - and i concur - cefalu is a wonderful place. i hope to return to it someday.
did you know that some of your older posts are in such a tiny font they can't be read (unless it's my mac playing tricks on me)? anyway, i'd love your recipe for 'fried rice sicilian style'. my grandmother (from caltanisetta) used to make them. could you repost, or send it to me on facebook?
grazie molto
