Something's up in Aspra

Spent the day at home today. Everyone went into Palermo. I had the house all to myself. Reading, swimming, studying Italian. Since it is Sunday, the internet places are closed, so I spent another day surrendered to the sea and sun.

I am not complaining. My friends returned tonight and we headed into Aspra to learn what the past week of empty tents were about. The boardwalk was filled with more people than I have seen congregated anywhere since my arrival. Considering the number of merchants there was shockingly little to purchase. So I took pictures of candy and ate gelato. Then I saw the woman who cut my hair. I felt so happy to recognize someone and be recognized, that I jumped up to say hi. I nearly dropped my gelato. She was patient, kind, flattering and lovely as I sputtered away in my 1 week old, resurrected Italian. It's hard being mute with so much life going on around me. Patience. Patience.
